Why this tea?
Its signature character is a smooth, sweet richness with a full-bodied, pectin-like texture—the perfect key to experiencing the top-tier Pu-erh tea.
The tea comes from the core production area of Pu-erh - Bingdao (冰岛) region, nestled deep in the mountains of Lincang, Yunnan—the birthplace of tea. Located near the Tropic of Cancer, the area sits at an average altitude of 1,800–2,400 meters, where clouds and mist linger year-round and rainfall is abundant, creating a unique, world-class micro-ecosystem for tea.
Reaching this region requires flying to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan, followed by several hours by train to Lincang. A few years ago, before highways reached this region, travelers had to take several more hours by car and then ride ox-carts or horse-drawn carts to reach the region. Even today, it takes about four hours by car from Lincang’s train station, and because the ancient tea gardens are deep in the mountains, the tea trees are accessible only on foot.
The harsh natural conditions give rise to these rare and treasured teas, which explains the limited annual yield.
How to drink this tea?
The first infusion serves as a rinse, awakening the leaves and allowing them to unfurl. From the second infusion, your true tasting journey begins. Unlike most teas you’ve tried before, the flavor doesn’t fade after multiple infusions—instead, you’ll notice the tea becomes increasingly smooth and sweet. Even through the 15th to 20th infusion, the tea maintains an exceptional, full-bodied character.
What’s the unique culture of this tea?
Due to the unique environment of this region, the surrounding community consists of indigenous minorities whose ancestors have lived here for generations. For them, the tea trees are more than a source of income—they are a heritage and a deeply held tradition. Beyond the annual harvest season, the trees are left completely undisturbed, allowing them to grow in a fully natural state.
During harvest season, farmers carry bamboo baskets along trails stretching dozens of miles, hand-picking leaves directly from the trees. A single farmer can produce only a few ounces of finished tea per day.
What’s the taste?
Unlike any other tea you’ve purchased online, this tea carries the subtle presence of moss on the trunks, the surrounding misty air, and the mountain environment—all contributing to a complex flavor profile of woody, floral, and honeyed notes. Centuries-old trees, with roots far deeper than ordinary tea trees, draw abundant nutrients from the soil. This results in a tea with richer, more layered flavors and also lays the foundation for its outstanding aging potential.
